Guelph girl, 12, gets new heart

A 12-year-old Guelph girl received Sick Kids Hospital's 200th heart transplant in Toronto Tuesday, after more than a month of waiting.

McKayla Eaton was admitted to Sick Kids on June 19 and diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. Her heart was enlarged, and its right and left ventricles were too weak to pump blood into her lungs and bloodstream.

Two weeks later, McKayla was put on a mechanical blood pumping device called the Berlin Heart, meant to keep blood pumping through her body until a real heart could be found.
