VALLEJO, Calif. (KCBS) -- The little girl who helped save her family's life when a fire broke out in their Vallejo apartment this past Monday morning is little happier this weekend.
Christmas for 7-year-old Kelby Groves and her family was looking somewhat bleak, after they lost many of their possessions, and Christmas presents, in the fire. It was Kelby who managed to wake up everyone in the home, allowing them to escape the burning house without injury.
Now, things are quickly turning around for her and her family, as local firefighters pulled up to Kelby's grandmother's house to drop off three big sacks of toys for her, and her two younger brothers.
Kelby's mom, Tamara Groves says she's been overwhelmed with the response from the community, especially the firefighters.
”We’ve been looking for housing, but the road to recovery from the situation has been ok. I have family, friends, people have been making contributions, the phone calls, the prayers. We will be ok. We will make it through this,” said Groves.
